Talk on "An Assessment of the Planet Occurrence Rate using K2 Data"

by Jeremias Pfaff, Technische Universität, Berlin, DE

Abstract: Based on the assessment of the occurrence rate of extrasolar planets in the Milky Way, a correlation between the frequency of planets and their properties (radius, orbital period) as well as stellar characteristics (effective temperature, metallicity) is evaluated. The motivation for this lies in the understanding of planet formation and evolution models, which themselves rely upon an exhaustive as possible knowledge of the frequency and diversity of planetary systems. This assessment includes work on an automated transit detection pipeline and comments on the hot super-Earth desert.
