Talk on "Generation, manipulation and detection of NIR and MIR entangled photon pairs"

by Alessandro Trenti, University of Trento, Italy

Abstract: In my presentation, I will address the two main topics that I investigated during my PhD at the NanoLab group, at the department of Physics of the University of Trento. The long term goal was the demonstration of mid-infrared (MIR) entangled photon pairs via spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC) in strained silicon waveguides. I will show second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements based on multimodal phase matching in strained silicon waveguides, where the main contribution to the observed signal was due to charges via the so called electric‐field‐induced‐second harmonic effect (EFISH). For the detection of MIR photons, I will show the demonstration of a novel MIR detector with single-photon detection capability. By means of spectral translation, coincidence measurements on MIR twin photons at room temperature are demonstrated.
