Markus Aspelmeyer, Professor of Physics in the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information Group at the University of Vienna and Director at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, has been honored by the European Physical Society (EPS) for "his pioneering contributions to the field of quantum optomechanics, a new paradigm that allows to control solid-state quantum systems and explore new regimes of macroscopic quantum phenomena".
The prize recognizes the highest level of achievements in fundamental and applied research in optical physics. It is awarded every two years and was presented today during the CLEO/Europe EQEC conferences in Munich.
